When we walk into our home, we should feel inspired. A house is like our body. The home is like our soul. Is your home filled with items that resonate good vibes? Every object resonates a vibe, a vibrational energy. If the body is the temple for the soul, then home is a sanctuary for the soul as well. If you feel weighted down soon as you walk into the door, the energies may be stagnant like the energies that flow in our bodies get blocked too if we are in an emotional or mental holding pattern, it can manifest into blockages in our physical body. When we get stuck in patterns that are no longer serving us, it's time to get the energy moving by re-moving items, giving away, and re-thinking them so we can make room in our lives that have greater meaning and allow new experiences to come in. What are you willing to let go of?
Remove objects you can live without that resonates a negative vibe in your personal space. Why continue to suffer or feel negative energy each time you look at the piece? Or consider removing items that boost your ego but have no personal feeling attached to it. It is great that company sees it, but do you feel an affinity to it or feel guilt around it? We should not create a habit of filling up empty spaces in our homes because of the allure of advertising or keeping up with the Jones'. Even if a Buddha statue does not have meaning for you, can you feel good about its presence? It's important to allow a space be an empty space too. This simple practice invites fresh-ness into our lives.
A house should contain all things we LOVE... objects bought, found, books, personal treasures, gifts received, photos, mementos of unforgettable times, musical instruments, jewelry, pieces of nature, whatever it is, it means something personal to you and it creates the environment you spend most of your time in.
Home as sanctuary is being in LOVE with your surroundings and looking forward to retreat for peace and nourishment. A sanctuary is a place of tranquility and to retreat to from the dis-harmony of life... a safe place to nourish the soul and awaken our spirit... the place you feel at ease... so we can re-charge. We are creating a container for positive energy and expanding it naturally to our home life. We can still go to our temples, churches, sacred spots in nature or where ever it may be to you... but we can also make our own space sacred that is personal to us in our own home.
We can easily create create harmony around us by seamlessly integrating objects in our home that have value and meaning. This would be home as sanctuary, not home as storage space for things that create anxiety every time you look at it. Objects should resonate well-being otherwise pass them along to create space for more bliss in your home. Start with one room or hallway then take on another.
You may already have pieces you intuitively placed in one area of your home. It might be called a shrine or altar... those random objects collectively reveal the inner working of your subconscious. It is not that the object is sacred but it is the faith in the object that makes it sacred. When creating your altars, they should nurture your spirit... bring it peace and animate that piece of you that inspires creativity.
Home should be a sanctuary when it integrates mind, body, and spirit.
